Email Gateways

Some I/O modules, such as the Control By Web X-310, are stand-alone devices that are able to operate without needing rAware hardware.

However, without physical rAware node, these units can only communicate via outgoing email.

rAware supports a special kind of node - called an 'Email Gateway' - for this kind of email-equipped I/O module.

Security Concerns

rAware usually operates via a secure VPN, which provides a solid layer of security over all communication. Email is not a secure communications medium, so by sending information via electronic mail, you must accept some security risks.

To make your system as secure as possible, please ensure that your mail host has an SPF record and if available, supports DKIM - these two mechanisms will help ensure that all email is valid.

Creating the Node

Like all nodes, Email Gateways are set up by your provider or by Optrix Support. Each node is linked to a unique email address, so an email must be provided. This is the email address that all devices under the node must use to send out email.

Adding Devices

You can add devices to email gateway nodes exactly the same way as regular nodes - however you don't need to bother selecting an IP address.

Instead, you'll be asked for the name of the unit (a string of characters that will uniquely identify messages from it).

Configuring the Device

Finally, you can configure the device itself. It needs to send email from the address of the node, to our submission email address - submission@raware.net

Note that this email address is completely automated.
